Sdh222F Sandstalker

Post by Bryan Krueger »

Here is my attempt at the SF3D SandStalker. The original was built by Kow in the early 80s. He used a Tamiya Sd.Kfz 222 as a base and added a skirt to make it a hover vehicle. I scratch built the 223M four years ago have always wanted to try the 222F in 1/35. I didn't have all the necessary donor kits to accurately replicate the original so I dug thru my spares for stuff close enough. Instead of making the hull from scratch, I used a 1/76 Nutcracker as a base. In the end I could have used leftovers from diner as so much putty was used the Nutcracker is completely hidden.

This was the first stage. I used the styrene strips to define the hull shape.

Putty was used to bulk out the main shape. The nose was a little shallow so I built it out.

Added the bottom flare and blended in.

The surface was sanded to shape and the greeblies were added.

That's really nice Bryan. :) You must have used a fair bit of putty making it.

Thanks all. I used Aves Epoxy Putty. Great stuff to work with, easy to manipulate while putty and easy to carve, sand, drill after it sets. I used a lot (the nose is probably over 1/2" thick) but the Aves comes in a 1lb kit and it often will get old before I ever use it all up.
