Re: Plastic Armour 2.0
First step is done - I just registered with a hosting service. Once it's been approved, I can start building the new site Total costs right now are 2.50 Euros a month, which is a lot less than the current arrangement. I get 50 Gigabytes of online storage, which should last a while, at least if we keep picture sizes reasonably small.
Since Plasticarmour.com will be occupied for another 5 months I've decided to call the new thing plasticpanzers.com.
We can either stick with that or transfer the old domain to the new site once the contract runs out. In any case we can have the old adress redirect to the new one once things get going there.
I'm slightly excited now
Philipp
PS: Ideas or just general feedback for the new site are very welcome

Hosting for photos is old hat now!
Only MM does it as far as I have seen recently, save the space!
Plastic Panzers, why not!
We need to attract some new blood too, so go for it.
What say you chaps?

Re: Plastic Armour 2.0
The space would also be occupied by photo features, review photos and the like. However it might be possible to place these elsewhere and save a few bytes on occasion
Whatever happens in the future, as long as there is a regular influx of new content on the front page it should keep the site relevant to the outside world. And we might even get a Facebook page to spread the news

Re: Plastic Armour 2.0
New site is online!
https://www.plasticpanzers.com/
No real content yet and still lots of stuff left to optimize, but both the front page and the forum are running! The forum link should be obvious, once in the forum you can go back to the main page trough the header image. I'll try to make that larger so that it fills the entire box.
Please don't register yet!
If everything works as I have planned I can transplant the entire forum database with all posts and your login data so you don't have to do that again.
I'll disable comments on the main page and make the forum the only area to comment. Should attract a few more regular users maybe..?
I've yet to figure out how to integrate Wordpress and Forum software properly. If it were to work, I could add a "latest forum topics" box right on the main page.
Once again, feedback is most welcome!

Thanks Vincent
Wordpress makes things fairly easy, at least once you have grasped the basic concept
The good thing is, with the new homepage in theory everyone can add their models to the gallery. All you need is an account, which I can set up for you.

Re: Plastic Armour 2.0
I've added a few more bits and pieces as well as a prototype gallery post. I've also added social media buttons for those so inclined.
I'd like you to report any issues you might encounter, especially with different systems (tablet, phone etc.). And of course any other wishes you might have
Once everything is running smoothly I'll start on the forum transplant.

Re: Plastic Armour 2.0
Every single attempt to migrate the forum database has resulted in the new installation being messed up beyond repair. Doesn't look too good...

IT'S ALIIIIIIIVE!
index.php
Login seems to work, attached files and avatars are still missing somewhere. I still want to do an update to the latest version, which has a few notable improvements especially for mobile use. But in theory it's ready to use

Re: Plastic Armour 2.0
So, do we abandon the old PlasticArmour and put all new posts on PLasticPanzers? Hoping to get some pics of the progress on the Chata build and post them tonight.
