FIGURES a quest for 2015

Post by Steve Hutchinson »

Third time is the charm, so they say

Hi Gang,

Third time lucky for loading this blog.

I will load it in smaller sections to see if it will "take"

I have been scribing figures at lunch time and now have a good quantity to paint

My desk looks like a print of Vlad Dracol from the 15th century

I have "borrowed" an idea from the Masterbox web site for the next selection

I have enhanced the scenario with a OOTB Stug III A but the figures will be

with these

The Stug III A will be a centre point with a split screen, summer one side winter the other

Thanks Rob but it is purely selfish

I want to improve my figure/head painting, so I have sort of fallen into PF rather than PA  ( Plastic Figures)

It does help having time my work desk to scribe and sand figures, but the painting is where I need to focus and that will be difficult to do at work

I even think that Cleaning and bending PE is possible at work, though soldering will be forbidden

AS I have already organised 2016 as PE & soldering for me, it will be back to a build, and a surprising one too ;)

Though I will need to keep painting figures, as I haven't got to where I want to be and when I get there, one day, it will be practice that keeps you there

I d o have 4 late war camo figures in my work bag, but they are still taunting me, as I don't have the courage to paint them yet

Your late war camo figures really are a standard to reach for :D

Quantity doesn't outshine your quality Rob ;)

More soon?

Not a StuG or a 251/250!?! Awesome, looking forward to it! :D

Lazy suggestion: use decals! The Shinsengumi ones are really great!

Also: your Vlad Țepeș desk looks awesome!

Keep the great figures coming! . . . err as long as you enjoy it of course  .

Best regards

Just noticed that half the figures are primed black, the other half white. What's the story there?

Thanks chaps

Raoul, I really want to try and paint the camo, but I will be approaching you and Philipp at some point to "beg" a 2 cm Sq of decal to use as a template/pattern,
when I get the figures built

I am currently working on some Gen 2 Germania figures, but I am not convinced they are such a great improvement :(

The folds seem to be too exaggerated, and too many small pieces on a figure seems wasted, and the heads will still be swapped out for Hornet, so it is all down to the excellent equipment, but even then, the opportunities to have gun holsters and a ammo belts opened is not an every figure thing.

The jury is still out, but as I never pay more than £7.50 inc. postage, its not a big issue ;)

John, I have become comfortable with the Calvin Tan system of dry brushing the heads as a base, to accentuate the detail for painting, this is best achieved on a black base, the bodies are getting a standard grey Tamiya fine primer spray as an alternative to Mr surfacer 1500, it seems to be just as good, and is easier to find, as my LHS stocks it, so I don't need to order from China ;)

I am hoping for a serious painting day tomorrow as it is forecast rain, thunder and storms, so no yard work :D :D

But the best laid plans

Steve- You are certainly on a figure quest for sure. I wish I had the patience to just sit and scribe figures. Wish Vinnie would have never showed us that. I can't build a figure anymore without re-scribing the detail.

Thanks Shawn

It is a lunch time pursuit, I remember yuo used to be able to build at work until your job role changed?

It is similar but I don't have that much space, so a figure is the right size for me to pick up and put down

I have had a good week and have just about finished a dozen heads, :o

I will try to get some decent photos of them all over the bank holiday weekend ;)

I have done 2 Siberian guards, 4 general staff, 4 Barbarossa infantry and the 5 cold wind figures, a bakers dozen ++

More soon?
