British Expeditionary force 1940

Post by Steve Hutchinson »

Hi Gang

Don't ask why but it is a passing fancy for figure scribing and painting eventually

Not the best photos, and they are an old Tamiya set but for £3 why not.

Its plastic so don't throw me out of the club

These are quite good figures in my view, among the best done by Tamiya. My only criticism is the hard and difficult to scribe plastic Tamiya insists on using.

Hi Steve,

Looking forward to seeing how you go. I want to get some figures happening too.

Nice set Steve! They do look good for Tamyia figures, though Tamiya generally is not among the worst, even nice faces :D .

Thanks guys

They are good aren't they.

I have started a MB Panzer Grenadiers as the scenario counter point and they are awful, really soft vinyl-like soft plastic and the classic slipped mould issues.

They were cheap too and it is primarily a painting a scribing exercise, but it is almost impossible to scribe such soft plastic, and filing just leaves score marks

I will try to get one figure finished and then review if it is worth bothering with the other 3, or filing them in the bin or E-bay

Hopefully an update soon

Thanks for the input

I'm surprised about the masterbox figures. I've always had good luck with those. Is it one of their older sets?

It is, I have them (and have been ignoring them since ;) ), the modern MB sets are generally superior to the newer Tamiya ones.
Of course then there are the old ones... :?

Another good topic for a group build.

Where is the paint Steve.

Hi Shawn,

Yeah, i was thinking about that. Small viginettes would make a great topic for a group build :)

Hi Gang

I have some paint, but first, the very poor older MB German infantry, you can see how soft the detail is in comparison with the Tamiya figures.

The newer MB are much better, but they actually reboxed these German figures, I found another box in the stash, which will be going onto E-bay soon.
I will finish them as a painting project. They are the subject of a full refurb on another web site, if you are interested

And paint, primer

2 shades of Khaki, I changed the shade for the top from the bottom but I think it is too subtle for my camera techniques

Next up is all the webbing, straps putties etc, then a highlight and a sepia dip for shadows. Then the flesh and heads, that is where the fun starts  ;) :D

More to come soon, hopefully
