Re: British Expeditionary force 1940
Hi Steve,
Not trying to dispute you here, i know these are for practice too, and i'm no expert on the subject, but i thought the British uniforms were a little darker? What colour did you use?

Re: British Expeditionary force 1940
Its probably the photo Woody
The box art shows Tamiya XF-52 Khaki, I used the colour match web site
http://www.creativemodels.co.uk/paint_c ... /12/page/2
and tried the Vallejo model colours 824 German Cam orange ochre and 923 Japanese uniform
Using them separately, I darkened them both with 825 German Cam Pale Brown, which gave me the 2 Khakis one for trousers and one for the blouson which were both darker than the Tamiya box art.
Using the Sepia dip to wash the whole figure will darken them again, and the one thing I have learned from all the research I have done on figure painting this year, is,it is about layers and layers of washes and filters to arrive at a final finish.
Unfortunately, the photos are not up to it yet, but I am hoping to get better
Bear with me on this one and we will see how it turns out
I did all my ""busy"" work for Anna yesterday, mow the lawn, take down all the light shades, clean, check and change all the light bulbs, shopping, repair all the light fittings I broke etc etc etc, today is my day to be creative, or that is what I keep telling her
""I need to be creative, to feel alive!!!""
Well, I will not say what her reply to that is
""???****$$££!!!<<< rubbish!!"",
but I will get started soon, just getting caffeinated and motivated
Catch you later

Nice work Steve - they do look nice for Tamiya. You are making a good job.
Dont worry too much about the khaki colour - I've obsessed previously -the range in shads is very marked.
For what it's worth and in covenience terms - Model Colour "English uniform", "Green Brown" and Andrea "English uniform" are all acceptable and worth using for different shades - trousers in one, jacket in another to add figure variation.
Keep it coming
Rob

Re: British Expeditionary force 1940
Thanks Rob,
its been interesting getting some different mixes onto the figures,
Some progress with the figures,
The blue backing really does pick up the photos, you'll see that in relation to the following which are no where as good
All the kit
some shading on the battle dresses
The kit being added,
I'll take the next photos in the light box with the background card, as they are definitely better
Thanks for popping in

Re: British Expeditionary force 1940
Hi John
Vallejo model colour all the way,
no smells but they do dry quickly and the wet palette isn't always big enough for all the mixing to find the rightish colours
But that is what practise is all about, just trying to get the "wood" looking better then onto the heads
Eyes done and not too bad or too big, next is the make or break bit, the complexion and its going to have to be tomorrow, I've run out of creativity for one day.
Thanks for popping by, how did your guessing the kit to the modeller go?

I guess that half the participants are doing Shermans and the other half Germans. In the end will be a giant diorama featuring Germans fighting Shermans.
I'm pretty sure Gary is doing the crane tank thing. Beyond that, no idea.

Re: British Expeditionary force 1940
Finally finished the practise work and it has been really useful and entertaining
I'll put all the shots on my photo bucket and face book sites, I've picked some of the better ones but my photography could be with some practise too
I have learned that a wet palette is great for face painting I just need a bigger one and some better wax/grease proof paper!
Everyone is environmental and only has unbleached paper which is brown, no good for mixing paints, but better for baking.
I will have to find something better before my next project.
Get the eyes right and the rest will follow, even with an old set of figures like these from circa 1999, I think?
Just have a go, it great fun, now all I need is a wall and 4/5 Panzer Grenadiers for the other side.
No rifle slings yet and no dust or pigments until I have a base for them.
Any comments?
Thanks for popping in

Re: British Expeditionary force 1940
Have you tried a paint retarder ? To slow down the drying in lieu of the wet palette ?
