Tamiya's Dinosaur
Feel free to move this, Gary. But I'm pretty sure it would be considered non-military.
At the IPMS show last year I was intrigued by a handful of entries in the "Dinosaur" category. There really was some spectacular taxidermy to be seen. The winning entry was scratch sculpted and used real glass eyes from the taxidermist.
I purchased Tamiya's Chasmosaur last fall with the idea that the kids might have fun building it. In the end they just wanted to use my sprue cutters to remove the parts from the tree.
These kits are super simple to construct. So I thought I might have a go in an underused category. In truth, I'll probably have more time in the forest vegetation than I do in the dinosaur itself.
If you've never seen one before, Tamiya includes a pretty good base to go along with the model. I've added the dirt and paint.
The leg joints still need considerable putty work. But I'm looking at 32 hours in St. Louis over the next few days. So I suspect I'll get the model cleaned up and ready for base paint.

Best thing about them? They are 1/35, all kinds of room for sci-fi dioramas. Dinos on a Bofors John?

Re: Tamiya's Dinosaur
I've seen this type of thing, Dinotopia, Nazi T-Rex and the like. But How about a museum setting? The kit gave me several ideas about modern/WWII vehicles parked inside a damaged museum. I'm sure Bosnia or Berlin must have had a natural history museum??????Matt Parvis wrote: They are 1/35, all kinds of room for sci-fi dioramas. Dinos on a Bofors John?

Anybody want to build that? I've got like, 22 diorama ideas already.

Plants and moss and algae.
These I'm throwing in for their comedic value. I could explain what you're seeing. But it's more fun if you decide for yourself.

I seem to vaguely recall building one of these many, many moons ago. Looking forward to seeing how this one progresses John.

Re: Tamiya's Dinosaur
Painting dinosaurs is fun! Nobody is ever going to claim I got the colors wrong.
I decided to go with the Fat Tailed Gecko
Once everything is dry I'll hand paint the eyes:
Still glossy from the wash of AK Interactive, Dark Brown. I'm not sure they ever had this in mind when they developed the product line. But it works!
I may be done with the Chasmosaurus entry, or not. If I add anything it will be subtle dark spots in the fields of brown-orange.
Travel box for Knights of Olde was also completed for the Nats.
