Revell 1929 Ford pickup
After the complexities of the Saint Chamond I thought I would build something simple and quick. Unfortunately it took me a while to decide what I had that would be simple and quick.
Anyway, after much deliberation, I finally chose this. The idea was to build a working truck rather than a Rat Rod, not that there is anything wrong with Rat Rods.
I knew there was going to be a bit of fiddling and clean up required as is normal with these old kits. So the first item of interest were the spoke wheels, which come from an AMT 29 Ford by the way. I decided to thin them down as much as possible as they are much too thick straight from the box.
On the left is the unaltered kit wheels and on the right my attempt to improve them. The next part of the build went quickly and I ended up with some sub assemblies being painted. At this point in the build I still hadn't made up my mind on the paint scheme. Here is the chassis in progress The engine is a little gem and I couldn't resist putting a bit more effort into it. You'll note that I haven't gone crazy wiring it up and thats simply because I think it will be completely covered when the body goes on Here are some shots of the completed and painted chassis. Finally a couple of pics of the body. I went with basic black after a bit of head scratching. I'm happy with it so far.
Cheers,
Vincent

I already like where this is going
You know, the grey one on the box art would look nice with a bunch of pseudo Freikorps soldiers on the back

Lovely work Vincent
Time to review all your blogs as I have 3 Airfix cars in the paintshop for primer.
Lovely wood planking too.

Thanks Adam. The wood grain comes from a very old decal sheet I had in the stash. I held my breath as I put it on, fully expecting it to break up, but it behaved well. Then I just added some depth with oils and a random coat of Tamiya clear orange.

Very nice tonal variations in the black and rust.

Thanks Bryan. I still have lots of layers to apply to give it a gritty, well used look.

Re: Revell 1929 Ford pickup
I didn't realise it has been so long since I posted anything. My apologies but I got distracted. I've been making slow progress on the pickup and in the meantime, I scratchbuilt this.
Anyway, that's where I'm at right now.
Cheers,
Vincent
It isn't finished yet. I still need to decide on whether I put timber or steel on top of it. I made it especially for the pickup to sit on but unfortunately, I realised too late that none of the other cars fit. I'll have to make another one that's a bit bigger. Anyway, that's where I'm at right now.
Cheers,
Vincent
