My next ship project



Something on the small side, again just for some fun and for technique learning.

The Zinnia was a Flower class Corvette, ordered by the French in 1938, she was launched in August 1940, comissioned in March 1941 and sunk with the loss of 68 lives off the coast of Portugal in August the same year.

There was three smallish sprues in the kit which cost the staggering sum of fifteen Euros .





I've glued the hull halves together and primed them so far.

Ships need to be assembled and painted as you go along, not something I'm used to as an armour builder. Plus there will be a lot of practice masking things.

Lots of lessons learned on this so far. I originally painted the hull without the superstructure, which made it almost impossible to mask so I ended up repainting it. I then went way too far in the construction before painting so masking was difficult and several bits came off. As I said in the introduction though, this build is a test so that when I build my Dreadnought I don't make so many mistakes.

What are you going to use for water/wake effects? Just tried the AK Diorama series offerings and they look pretty spot on so far.

A layer of tissue paper soaked in white glue to start with, paint that and then the AK water effects over the top of that. For the wake I plan to use cotton wool, which will help fill the gaps hopefully.

I'm still uncomfortable building things where I can't hide problems with mud

Anyhow, great work! Will the decks get a different colour or was it camouflaged all over?
