Type II B U-boats

It's nice to have a break from Armour modelling and have a nice simple build.

This little thing cost approx £7 and is a perfect subject to practice weathering on. I'm really looking forward to the Revell 1/144 Flower Class Corvettes, so weathering practice here should benefit those.

The Build really is straight forward. There are no aftermarket PE sets reflecting it's rather unsexy status as being essentially a training boat that only saw limited active service at the start o the war.

However she had elegant lines with a variety of colour schemes

There are some Aftermarket decal waterline markings from

The site itself is a self-contained modeller's Reference Resource and the scholarly article on U-boat colours is just masterly

The build flows

I used Vallejo Plastic Putty which dries to a rubbery silicon type finish which is difficult to sand. I shan't be using that again.
The scale at 1/144 compares to this....

Lifecolor do specific U-boat colours which is a minor Godsend. That together with Dougie Martindale's guidance (See above) is an enormous help throught the metaphorical minefield

Detail is OK

More soon. It's a quick build so as to get to the weathering.

Oh - and there's another on the way

Thanks for looking

Rob your building a lot of antagonists for the Flowers  but no flower!!!!

A nice simples build :D

The Vallejo filler, (Metal tube fine nozzle?) wipe it off whilst wet with a wet cotton bud, or sand it with very smooth emery anything too coarse and it drags out.

Thanks for the tip Vlad - sadly too late as it was consigned to the Bin :|

There'll be Flowers soon!

Rob- Looks like a really fun project. Will be interesting to see how you do the weathering. I am really looking forward to you building the Corvette.

I even might build one someday. IPMS nationals are coming up in August. I told myself I am going to come home with something other than armour for a change of pace.

To bad the Vallejo putty went into the bin. The first time I used it I did the same as you. I applied it then waited for it to dry. As you found out it did not work to well. Then I Goggled it and of course found a video on how to properly use it. I now love the stuff.
