On the other hand, it is an ocean going vessel. How about an amorous Octopus to hid it.

Here is a update on the progress to the Gato. Not much has been achieved on my part as life has got in the way of modelling. But whenever there has been a chance to grab 5 minutes I jump at it. This is still an enjoyable project albiet slower than I first hoped.
What I have been trying to do lately is to distress the hull and to show it has actually been in service and has not been just launched.
I hope a good paint and weathering job will eventually compliment what I am hoping to achieve.
Some of the weld seams had been sanded away, so I had to find a way to remake them. I found this a frustrating job in 1/72 scale. What I came up with was to use some Tamiya tape to create a channel between to lengths of tape. Then apply liquid plastic (pieces of sprue added to liquid glue) and brush it into the channel between the tape. Then remove the tape quickly before the plastic has a chance to solidify. Not perfect, but it achieves the effect.

First up though is a picture of the bow for Woody.. I fixed it for Mavis.

Thanks Vincent.
I'm struggling with the scale difference, as you well know I'm more comfortable with 1/32 & 1/35. So distressing it in 1/72 is a challenge as to how far to go, or when to stop.

The Spru-melt welds have come up nicely. I tried the technique once to fill a hole and ended up with a bigger melted hole! :o

Here are some pics for you and Shawn.
I have put down the base colours only. But I have yet to finish the black as I have run out and am waiting on a re-supply. So far, two jars of Semi-gloss black have gone on to it. The conning tower and guns are only dry fitted and base coated, also I will try to get a bit of detail into the guns as they are a bit basic. The periscopes and railing need to be added to the conning tower as well.
Just to give you an idea of the size of this thing I have included a Type VII as a comparison.
I'm sorry this build is taking so long, but modelling has been put on the back burner for a while.
Hope you enjoy the pics.
