Return to Terra Firma dio

So, since the late summer and early fall are pretty thin in terms of modelling time, I rarely get a lot done. This year was no exception, although I did get some modelling done, primarily working on a diorama I've been planning ever since I won a set of decals in a model show raffle. The decals were for F-104 Starfighters in use by NASA. Having those in the stash I went through ebay and picked up an F-104 and X-15. The following is the end result:
The dio is 1/72 and it was certainly an enjoyable project. The period of rocket plane flight test is really interesting to me, so, I am very happy to add this to the collection.

PS. The flight listed is not an exceptional flight for the X-15, neither the speed or the altitude make it into the top five. Top speed, for those who wonder, was 4,520 mph and max altitude was 354,200 feet which works out to about 67 miles. Generally accepted edge of space is 50 miles. That is why they eventually gave the X-15 pilots astronaut wings.
