Re: 1/32 Polikarpov I-16
I recently saw a video on YouTube by Michael Rinaldi about using oils to weather aircraft. He is a master when it comes to oil painting techniques and I was intrigued enough to try it out on the Polikarpov. After all, it's the only aircraft I have that is ready for weathering
I started on the under surfaces, reasoning that if I failed to get the hang of the technique then it would be easy to hide. I figured it was good enough to try the upper surfaces so on I went. I'm happy enough to keep going at this point. I can see that more practice is necessary of course, but I am encouraged with what it does for the model. I think I will use this more often in tandem with the Black and White method.
Cheers,
Vincent

I'm glad you're back on this build, the downed bird looks amazing I'd say Mr Rinaldi's techniqe worked out perfetly well
Can you post a link to the video? I'm not planning on any aircraft, but I'm curios

Re: 1/32 Polikarpov I-16
I'd love to post the link Philipp but I'm embarrassed to say I don't know how. Sorry.
However, if you go to Youtube and search Michael Rinaldi OPR Aircraft Weathering there is a 20 min condensed video showing how he does it.
I was curious too and look what happened

Re: 1/32 Polikarpov I-16
Superb work on the Polikarpov, Vincent
I have one in the stash and am hanging onto it for now along with the Bf-109D Condor legion.
The past 9 months have been hectic with the 2 kittens and life's minefield of "stuff".
They are 1 years old in 2 weeks and life seems to be settling, just a little.
Perhaps, before jinx it, I might just dig out my desk from behind the stack of storage tubs!
Another long story.
Well done Vincent, your oil work is definitely up there with Michael's
Enjoy the process, it does seem your forte is battered, beaten up and rusty
Regards

Re: 1/32 Polikarpov I-16
Thank you for the kind words, Steve.
I'm glad to hear you are doing well and that the kittens are keeping you on your toes. I understand about life getting in the way too. You should definitely get your desk set up again and start fondling some plastic. It would be great to see you building something on here again.
Cheers,
Vincent
