German paint color question

For the Zvezda truck I'm building now:

If an individual vehicle was in service from 1939-1945 would it have likely been reprinted from grey to dark yellow during those years? Is it possible there would have been large numbers of grey vehicles still in use in 1945?

Thanks,

John

I'm afraid there's no definite yes or now answer possible. It depends on various circumstances.

Vehicles in use with frontline troops would be subjeced to a lot of heavy (ab)use, so they would rarely survive for more than 1-2 years, especially after 1943. In addition to that, frontline troops would be more concerned with proper camouflage, so it's very unlikely to see pure pre-1943 dark grey still in use in 1945.

Vehicles back home in the Reich however would quite possibly stay in their original colour. The same would be true for Kriegsmarine vehicles only used around Naval installations in France and elsewhere. However I could imagine that even those would get some sort of camo paint with the growing threat from Allied aircraft during the final months of the war.

Therefore...it's very much possible, but definitely not in large numbers.
