Well I am starting to think I want to push the limit of my modelling skills and do a diorama after I have a couple more builds under my belt.. And this image caught my attention...

2 Panthers sitting in ditch in Normandy..



Not knowing much about German Armour.. These look like A to me? So I am leaning towards a couple Tamiya kits for this. Any down falls to the Tamiya Panther A kits?

Also can anyone shed any more info about the photo like the Panther unit? Allied units that are in the background, whereabouts.. Long shots maybe?

Not sure the one on the right is an A. Can't see the driver's vision port on the glacis plate.

Both are Ausf. A - the one on the right has two periscopes for the driver as well. The Ausf. G had only one which could rotate.

For the love of God and all that is holy, don't use the Tamiya Panther A! It is way beyond horrible - the absolute worst Panther kit out there. It's also the very first 1/35 scale kit ever. By virtue of being approximately 1/35 in scale when they measured it after designing.

So a couple of Dragon kits would be the way to go then?

I guess Dragon is the only option at the moment for a decent Panther A, since there simply is no other kit available. Unless you want to make an early Panther G, Dragon's G kit is much better.

Ah right, the Italeri Panther. Forgot about that one, apologies.

I guess it's not a complete waste of money but I'm not sure about any dimensional issues it might have. You'd probably need new tracks and some photoetch, the overall investment might be getting close to the Dragon Panther A by then, which doesn't need quite as much aftermarket.

I found a Normandy boxing of Dragon Panther A out China for US$55 shipped to me in NZ.. So I will grab that and start tracking down another one!
