German Uniform Patch question

On some WWII German Army uniforms, I've noticed a red stripe on a black background on the tunic, in between 2 of the buttons. What does this stripe mean? I've seen no mention of it in any book that I have or online source.

Most likely it's the ribbon of the Iron Cross 2nd class. The medal itself was usually worn only on special occasions. On normal duty it would be worn as the ribbon only, slung through the 2nd button hole on the tunic .

Here's more information: http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/iron_cr ... ross_2.htm
