Found 2 of my Navy Cruise Books on line

Post by Dennis McQuillen »

I recently found 2 of my cruise books from my stint in the U.S. Navy.

All I will say is that I was in Reactor Department, M Division.

Anyone else? I know there is...

Hi Dennis,

And there you are!:D How young were you back then?

Very nice find. I bet you got a real kick out of finding that. Man, how many memories flood back when you see stuff like that 8-)

We never did things like that when I was in the Air Force , the most I ever got was a zippo lighter when you signed in to the squadron and maybe a plaque was given to you when you left the unit . It was a goodbye and a swift kick in the butt . I forgot I did get to fly a F4 wild weasel over Iraq . They needed bait to see if the Iraqi missile batteries would take a shot at us .

I've got a few unit plaques from when I moved around, plus a bronze Fusilier figure and a bronze Challenger tank. I also got a pewter Tripod mounted GPMG which at some point got dropped and bent out of all recognition

I couldn't find the Cruise books from my ship-
then again we were kind of busy kicking ass and taking names!

The number one underway ship in the US Navy while I was on board. USS Mississippi CGN-40.

Like Dennis- I was a "Nuke" as well. Electronics Technician/ Reactor Operator. There were many unflattering nicknames for Dennis' job and for my job.

I was on board when this occurred - that is not a training exercise.

I was The throttleman in #1 engineroom when this was taken. The first of four Suez Canal transits during ODS.

It was a good looking ship no doubt!
