COVID-19 in your country?

Post by Steve Hutchinson »

Hi Chaps

Obvious question D'ooooh!

How is it going were you live?

Its odd here in the UK and it seems London is a mini hot spot within the UK

No restrictions being enforced and everything is currently just voluntary

Don't travel or go out to socialise or panic shop, keep your distance of 1.5 metres from anyone you meet.

Europe seems to be more stringent, USA and Australia and New Zealand don't seem to get much of a mention?

We seem to have become very polarised on home and what happens here which makes sense.

With almost all global travel almost gone, I guess we don't need to know about anyone else!

So, how are you guys doing?

Is it all panic buying toilet rolls!

Have you been sent home or self isolating?

Take care and all the best to everyone

Regards

Steve H

Here in Denmark pretty much everything is closed down

Public employees (such as yours truely) has been sent home to work for 2 weeks, all schools and universities are closed, same with daycare etc. Rubbing alcohol and toilet paper are in high demand and more valueable than gold these days  .

Many things are shut down here. It varies by state though. In Maryland schools are closed and yesterday the governor closed restaurants. I work for a local government and so far we are still working, although folks who can telework, not me, are supposed to do so.

Toilet paper and cleaning products are scarce here as well.

I'm bummed because my wife and I were supposed to be going to Napa and Sonoma for a week of wine tasting starting next week and we've cancelled our trip. Good thing I've got plenty of wine at home to drink! :D

As of tomorrow all non-essential things are shut down in Germany. If we still had hobby shops this would probably include them. The horror!

Sanitizer, toilet rolls and noodles are sold out everywhere and some morons have spread hoaxes of closed down supermarkets. So far the situation is calm but tense, and we'll see how things will work out in the long term. No curfew yet but schools, kindergardens and universities are closed and people are strongly urged to stay at home unless they really have to go out.

As for me, I've been waiting for a new work contract since January. Since all museums are closed as well, I don't think there's any work for me in the foreseeable future. Though I suppose the toilet roll factories need some help now.

On a lighter note:

Stay safe everyone!

Here in Washington my Wife's and mine 18 year Anniversary plans have been cancelled because Governor Inslee has shut down all restaurants and we weren't going to go drive to Anacortes and only be allowed to eat fast foods through a drive thru. The schools and libraries have all been shut down. Basically any social gatherings of 50 or more people cannot happen. This sucks as the Seattle Spring Show has been cancelled. Luckily, our Liquor is not controlled by State operated store like PA(whose are closed) and VA.

As you're certainly all aware of France is now in the isolation mode. Nothing special to endure for an ex-serviceman who lived for months in some basic military installation during overseas operations.
This health crisis reveals all the stupidity mankid can show and the French people is no exception there. Some behave just like the whole food industry was out of service and they would starve for years.

The most important to me is my kits stash is at a sufficient level to help pass happily this moment

Take care all.

PS: in case of any toilet rolls shortage I keep my news magazines

Everything is shut down or closed. As frustrating as all of this is, it has to be done. I truly believe they need to do even more. All the public schools are closed but day cares are still open, this is unacceptable. They need to close as well. I know this is all causing a financial hardship on alot of people, but until we limit all direct contact we will not stop the spread.

The most frustrating thing for me is the school work they sent home. I don't know how they are teaching things these days but my fourth grader does not even know how to set up basic multiplication and division problems. He says at school they use hands on tools to solve the problems. I'M not a stupid person but I cant even really help him and of course none of the assignments they sent have examples on how to solve the problem and there is no answer key.

Our schools have said they are only closing for two weeks. I personally don't think they will go back this year. I hope they will have a better plan in place if this occurs.

28 cases in NZ as of today, all people who have returned from overseas, no community transmission as of yet. Anyone returning from overseas has to go into mandatory self isolation for 14 days, those who don’t can be forced to, those from overseas who don’t are deported. Anyone feeling ill or displaying symptoms of a viral illness go into isolation and are tested. Anyone in contact with any of the above go in to isolation. No gatherings over 100, we are practicing “social distancing” and are on the verge of closing schools, gyms etc.

Luckily we are still in the warmer months and as an island nation it is easier to control our boarders. We also don’t have the density of population of the UK and Europe. Add to that we are able to learn from the experience of the rest of the world and try to stay slightly ahead of the curve. Big social stimulus package just announced as well to support small business etc.

Tons of loo paper, initial panic buying has largely ceased as sensible people have realized this virus does not attack your butt hole :D

Hand sanitizer is sold out, paracetamol/Tylenol are restricted to one pack of 90 per customer. Lots of food despite some panic buying, luckily NZ is a net exporter of foodstuffs and loo paper.

As an Orthopaedic Surgeon we are carrying on as per usual, but the minute we get community transmission and ICU admissions all elective surgery will stop and we will be doing acutes only. We may also get redeployed to help outside our area of expertise.

...and as of a couple of hours ago we just closed our boarders to non-NZ citizens or permanent residents.
