Aaaaand he's gone again...

Post by Philipp Gross »

.....to Normandy. Again.

Same location as last year near Port-en-Bessin, north of Bayeux. I'll be off on Saturday and return two weeks later.

Belive it or not, it didn't occur to us that we'll be there during the annual invasion festivities which actually run from May 26th to June 10th. You can have a look at the full programme here. The amount of stuff to see is insane, to say the least.

Thanks to the miracles of modern technology I shall maintain contact and might post an update from time to time.

Thank you Vincent & Olivier :D

It's my 4th time here and so far we've been lucky with the weather. Even if it does rain it's usually gone the next day.

More tonight? 8-)

So, here we go!

First impression: Jeeps. Jeeps everywhere. I've never seen this many jeeps before. Looks like all the jeeps in Europe have gathered in Normandy. Also a couple Dodge WC and two Kübelwagen...

We went to Grandcamp-Maisy, stopped at a military market and had a look around. Did I mention Jeeps?

Nope, didn't buy a halftrack wheel :P

Went to a local farm to buy cider and pear juice. Guess what we found?

Last stop of the day was the Overlord Museum, as featured here previously. For three days they have an open air festival with a military camp and lots of vehicles, some of them running on a large circuit.

We were late, so the only thing we saw running was this Chaffee:

We might stop there again today, if the rain stops first

Yep, it's a great place to stay....as long as the sun shines

Went back to the museum today, but sadly no activity whatsoever. Two more impressions in torrential rain:

Any idea what type the truck in front is? Looks slightly Ford-ish.

We then went to Isigny (milk capital of Normandy) to buy cheese. A day well spent

We'll see how long I can keep this up before my family mutinies and demands tank-free days  Anyways, we'll head to Arromanches today, they have Scottish bagpipers on parade 8-)
