Iwata HP- C Plus - Packing screw/O ring

Post by Rob Matthews »

Hi Team

I've had my Iwata HP - C Plus for over 5 years. Faultless performance but I've begun to get problems with the Valve piston sticking to the O washer; such that I need to completely strip it including removing the piston and sometimes the washer after every use.
I surmise that I have never replaced the "Needle packing screw and O-ring (Please see the diagram) and that paint and cleaner is being blown back contaminating the piston ring.

https://airbrushes.com/parts_info.php?c ... ucts_id=33

1) Anyone else had the same problem?
2) Anyone else replaced the Packing screw/O ring?
3) How do you replace the packing screw? - I presume it's threaded and unscrews. There is a cross head that I can just see but attempts to dislodge it with a jeweller screwdriver have failed
4) Or do I just send it back To Airbrushes.com for Service/Replacement?

Thanks

Rob

I have had to change mine on my Harder and steenbeck infinity, seems to be a common fault on mine  so I have become quite proficient at changing it

Have you tried the tightening technique? If something is over tight its worth tightening first to break the lock and then it should unscrew as normal.

Vlad - The wisest words

Got it out - it was minging

And Airbrushes with their excellent service have already sent me a replacement, though Mike suggested via their Email help line that the washer/O ring probably wasn't worn and that I should try some Iwata lube on the piston valve/O ring.

Comparing new with old - he's probably right :?

Hi Vlad

which part of the infinity have you had problems with?

Mine hasn't been used for nearly a year and I was hoping to start again soon!

It would be useful to get ahead of any pending problems!

Thanks

Steve, there are two areas that cause constant issues, No.1 the nozzle, it blocks very easily so paint consistency is crucial, I find Vallejo model air goes through with no issue straight from the bottle, Lifecolor (lifecolour :D ) causes untold problems due to the heavy pigment, I had a quick try with some Ammo and that went through with again no issues and no thinning.

The other area, which is the issue that Rob was concerned about is the packing screw and seal, it doesn't appear on the instructions but is deep in the body located between the paint reservoir and the air inlet, the needle passes through it and should be snug around the needle, but I have found the material used on the seal wears and allows liquids back into the area around the button/air inlet or gunks up and grips the needle, quite firmly if you have not used the AB often.....

Strip it down and explore :D its the best way to understand your kit

Thanks for the update Vlad

Looks like I will be stripping down the H&S tomorrow

I had the same issues with paint too! I'll have to see how the Ammo works out for you on the full paint job on the Scud

It really is annoying if the hidden gasket/valve isn't on the the distructions?

I had a look on the web site and couldn't see the part Rob is have problems with!

I have stripped the AB down plenty but never seen this damned bit.

Looks like it will be fun.

Thanks Vlad, and Rob too, for getting this niggle out in the open
