Wheel Alignment

Post by Gary Boxall »

Some kit manufacturers not only insist on using a really soft styrene, but also fail to provide decent locating points for key parts which can make aligning wheels a little tricky to say the least. That is exactly what I've found with Trumpeter's BMP-3
Here's a little trick I've used to ensure correct alignment while the cement cures and it can easily be used on other models....

I used some plastic coated steel wires (though any stiff wire will do the trick) and placed them between the road wheels top and bottom - securing them at each end and in the middle with a little tape. This ensures that all the wheels line up perfectly with each other.....

Then, by leaving the wires in place and putting the vehicle on a flat surface, you complete the set up, leaving it alone until everything has completely set....

Simple, but extremely effective

Might have to try that when I do the roadwheels on my Accurate Armour kits in future because they are a nightmare to get right.

Which of the BMP kits is it? I got the RB Models barrel set for mine, dirt cheap and very impressive.

That is a great idea. I can't tell you how long I spend making sure roadwheels line up.
