Clamping barrels Round?

Alright,
How do my fellow builders clamp and keep their barrels round? Anytime I have to mate a barrel, I always end up not making it round when it is finished. Most of this is caused by not being able to clamp the barrel round at the beginning.

I have one of these sets, Mark

Flex-i-file

I taped up the Leopold barrel then sanded her back to round, as there wasn't an aluminium replacement to be had anywhere!

HTH's?

I'm with Steve, I apply lots of thin Tamiya cement, let it sit for a bit, then clamp the halves with clothes pegs and dental bands. The glue and melted plastic oozes out of the join and I sand round again using a flexible sander. Still a complete fiddle and I replace with an aftermarket turned metal barrel when available!

Adam,
Can I trouble you with a picture or name of the dental bands? I saw a post on missinglynx about them and can't find the post anymore and I have looked but the only ones I seem to find I can't figure out. There appears to be straight bands and curved bands. I have a dentist appointment on the 24th and plan to ask and see what they use.

I use the wee red rubber bands that the orthodontist uses on braces. "cayenas" is the brand, about 100 per little ziploc bag. Found similar ones here on Amazon

Adam,
Thanks for that. I thought you meant adjustable metal bands used for retaining amalgam when filling teeth. I bought some of what you have and will see how they work.

While I was not that impressed with the bands I used, I think the barrel came out OK this time. Thanks again for everyone's help.
