IBG Otter Light Reconnaissance Car
And Definitely Not an armoured car
The T-72 is finished waiting only for me to paint a figure.
I couldn't resist this before the Chieftain I've been wanting to build it for several months.
It's ugly.
A Canadian vehicle with approximately 1,000 being delivered to Europe to serve in the Italian and NW Europe campaigns. They were armed with the Boys anti-tank rifle - long obsolete by the time Otters arrived and the reliable Bren gun, later upgrading to a 50 Cal Browning MG. They shared a common chassis and many parts with the CT15 armoured truck. Performance was lack lustre
And so to the box. It's huge. But with some nice artwork
To show how huge - here's a comparison with the Takom Chieftain box......
If this had been a Tamiya offering it would have come in one of their "small boxes". hey ho
Instructions are CAD-image type and flow nicely.
I fancy doing the version with the roundel - The call out is for "olive drab" - more of this later.
And here are a couple of well known pics (there aren't THAT many original photos)
And so - it's an off.
Chassis comes as pieces which square-off without drama
It comes complete with a very presentable engine
This is my first IBG kit and first impressions are favourable. The plastic is notably "soft" but fit is good and there is no flash. Surface detail is very acceptable tough not to Bronco/Riich standards.
The floor builds up
The Wheels are badged as "Goodyear" and fit nicelythough I've yet to see an original pic with this tread pattern. PanzerArt do Resin "Dunlop" or "Firestone" alternatives with tread matching available pics.
The Photo etch is very nicely grooved and bends tidily
Cab detail is nicely done
And before very long you get to this....
I glued the sides first AND THEN placed the windscreen section on so as to get a better fit. The instructions would have you do the opposite which I fear is chancing it
And the chassis comes together so
It is Ugly

Re: IBG Otter Light Reconnaissance Car
This explains why you have been so quiet of late
They are ugleeee indeed, I think that's what gives them the appeal, having built the C15TA ambulance and halfway through the C15TA armoured truck, this one needs to be built to round out the collection.
So how are you painting the interior?

Re: IBG Otter Light Reconnaissance Car
Nice subject
IBG seem to be coming along nicely, I've built their Bedford which wasn't bad but this looks a lot better. I found their instructions were hard to follow as the CAD pictures were very dark and part placement a bit vague.
Olive drab? SCC 2 seems more likely.

Looking good!
This seems to be a lot better than the 100mm Skoda howitzer I built a while ago. And yes, the instructions could be better. But still better than the photo based abominations Dragon used for a while.

Thanks Rob,
Just ruined my idea of doing the Mirror Models version as part of the Group build! LOL! I will watch this with interest and see how it stacks up to the Mirror version.

Wow Rob this came from no where.
You have quite the nice start there. Detail looks good. Have fun painting the interior.

Re: IBG Otter Light Reconnaissance Car
Thanks for looking in Fellas.
An enforced break due to work which has abated slightly - so I managed to get some desk time today
You have to work to get the fit - It's certainly NOT Tamiya but if you are careful it all fits. Each of the louvres is separate. The plastic is noticeably softer than than other manufacturers and not quite so easy to trim.
The hanging turret is nicely done.
And the thing I can never resist - Blue tack dry-fitting
It sits very high and reminds of a modern mine protection design. Though the hull is definitely Not V-shaped -
More soon - It's good to be back modelling - nearly 3 weeks off
