Trumpeter T-72B/B1 (w/kontakt-1 reactive armor)
I'm continuing my modern Soviet/Russian foray.
I'm also Loving these new Trumpeter kits. There's something appealing about the "add-on" Explosive reactive armour that caught my fancy for this T-72
The plan is to try and build this before the Takom chieftain is released.
I really like the colour plates that Trumpeter supply. In fact it's a 4 page booklet with this model - each profile specifying Mig Ammo colours.
The plan is to build this Rebel "Donestk people's Republic" vehicle either purloined from Ukraine or supplied discreetly by Russia.
The reasons for doing this are entirely aesthetic and I declare no allegiance or sympathy for either side. My next Soviet/Russian offering will be a BMP-2 in Ukranian colours
I'll be doing the bottom vehicle. I've been unable to find original pics but this is very close
Whilst the kit comes with indie tracks they do not articulate
it seemed reasonable to get this Aftermarket set that do articulate and need less clean-up
I'm on holiday this week and it rained+++ today so I made good progress
Construction is conventional with the hull tub being very nicely detailed
And the tracks need minimal clean up and articulate nicely and seem quite robust
Sorry Shawn
More soon

Sorry for what
Build what you enjoy. I will always follow no matter what. You need to go with a camo pattern though.
You have got your modeling mojo back for sure. Almost building as fast as Greg and Gary.
Will be following for sure.
I don't know if I already mentioned this or not but at the IPMS Nationals there was a guy selling Trumpeter kits for $20.00. A lot of them were Soviet Vehicles and he had the BMP's you have been building. Of course when I saw these you were the 1st to come to mind.

Interesting decoration!
Did you notice that the wheels provided in the kit do not match the tank you want to depict?

Well spotted Olivier!Olivier Carneau wrote:Interesting decoration!

The kit provides both the 8 spoke and 6 spoke options. I believe that the 6 spoke are "newer".
Looking at photos of T-72s in Ukraine they seem to divide pretty evenly. The pic of the T-72 at the Blog start doesn't exactly match the kit version - I'm going to go with the 6 spoke unless this seems daft?
Olivier - any idea what colour the interior of T-72s are painted in - I'm deciding whether to have one hatch open
@Shawn - Yup I have the bug back again - the Trumpeter kits have enthused me together with the Mig Ammo paint colours. I teased because I realise that I've done quite a bit recently - still a long way to catch up with Gregg and Gary though.

on the picture I saw in my different reference books, the interior is basically white with the various boxes, optics and commo gear varying from a blueish metal shade to brown-green. The hatch inner face usually is green.

Very nice choice. I hope all the PE attachment points for the anti-radiation cladding does not drive you nuts. The camo from the photo will really set the kit off and the opportunity to add various stowage items. I will be following closely as I have my eye open for the next T-72 they have set to release, which is the Dolly Parton model an early, straight T-72B.

I do have red/green perception problems... but to me it looks like the T-72 is flying the ANV battle flag sans the stars?
Funky!
But then I suppose we all have seen some really weird paint jobs and markings on the vehicles currently operating around the Donbas on both sides...
And great start on then kit!
Best regards
