Alan ZIS-6 Katusha

Post by Greg Beckman »

My next project. It's an old Alan kit, but it's the only game in town if you want an early Katusha prior to when Studebaker's were sent to the Soviet Union.

Reference material.

Resin goodies to help this kit along.

Like I said, it's an Alan kit.

Coming along. I did hit the fenders with the old dremel tool.

Yes of course, it is an Alan kit, but there isn't any better one on the world. It is model for real modeller no Lego kit. There was necessary to buy new wheels of course.

Edmund, plastic is very much like Tamiya plastic. The only real challenge with the model so far is that this is there old ZIS-5 kit, which is a 4 by truck. Various parts of the frame have to be shaved off to accommodate the double axle making this a ZIS-6. Plus there is no mounting locations for the double axle. You sort of have to make an educated guess. I only lightly glued the double axle in place incase I have to make some location adjustments as the kit develops.

You better get started on the popcorn now because you wont have time to finish it before Greg finishes this build.

Nice start so far Greg.

Shawn, no way. Parts fit on the entire kit is a bit mushy, putty and primer is my friend. Cab interior has been painted and sealed up, onto the launch frames later this week.

I never heard anything good about Alan kits. But I have to say that what I see here isn't too bad. It looks like the doors don't quite fit as tightly as they should. But the overhead framework looks very good.

I can see where you've patched up the rough spots. But it looks more than passable to me. It's also a rare variant. So you'll have a one-off when it's finished. The resin will help a lot as well.

John, correct. The door alignment is poor. The rear bed is just sitting on the frame as I can't seem to get it to align properly with the cab. If the left side bed aligns with the left side cab, then the right side is out. If the right side aligns, then the left side is out. I will continue the battle tonight.
