MT-25 Soviet Light Tank Proposal

Post by Bryan Krueger »

The MT-25 was a light tank proposal submitted in February 1943. Only drawings exist as no prototype was ever built. The 25-ton design claimed to have improved armor, high speed and long range. The running gear functioned like a skid steer tractor where each wheel was a drive wheel. By adding tracks, it functioned like a tank to traverse rough ground. The unsolicited design was rejected by the Defense Committee for being too complex.

This unique tank is the first full kit released by Resin Tech Models. It is a fully 3D printed model with everything you need in the box. I added a few detail items from the spares as seen in the photos. The model was finely printed with minimal support clean up. There is a slight print line texture on the hull and turret, but these areas were lightly wet sanded and covered with thinned putty to simulate the cast steel components. I was particularly impressed by the air intake screens and I hope RTM makes a future set for the KV tank family. The tracks are individual links and both sets were assembled in about an hour or so. The kit is engineered to allow easy placement of sculpted welds. I created these with Green Stuff epoxy putty. The tank was proposed with a 47mm gun, but this was an uncommon ammo size and I think they would have stuck with 45mm for supply reasons if it had gone to prototype or production.

That is one weird looking tank Bryan. :) Your improvements to the model make a difference too.

This is what happens when you wash your KV too hot

Wonderful build Bryan, I'm in awe what esoteric subjects can now be released by a talented guy with a 3D printer. I definitely want to try one of those T-34 turrets by RTM.
