In November 1944, Soviet Ministry of Defense issued technical requirements for arming captured German tanks with domestic Soviet guns. The Pz IV would receive the 76.2 mm, the Panther would mount the 85mm gun, the Tiger 1 would be fitted with a 100mm and potentially the King Tiger would get a 122mm main gun. Research was carried out but by spring of 1945, the project was abandoned as it was obvious the war was winding down and domestic tank production was sufficient.
I’ve had a Dragon Tiger 1 initial kit kicking around for a couple of years in various stages. I bought it partially built at a swap meet for ten dollars and used parts to upgrade the Hobby Boss VK 30.01[P]. The remainder I planned to use for a FlaK 36 field conversion, but this T-VI-100 kept gnawing at me. I acquired a Takom Tiger 1 Mid with Zimm kit for the build, but it looked so nice to kit bash, I decided to use the Dragon kit for this conversion.
This conversion was very straightforward. The gun mantle collar was modified to fit an aftermarket turned aluminum barrel. The tan parts are the parts that had been swapped out from the 30.01 build. I substituted a few Soviet style parts for the pieces missing from the Tiger kit like the antenna pot, head light and armored air vent dome. A few 3d printed tool clasps and some spare PE bits finish up the details.
