Re: Tamiya T-62
Hi
The oil render is very much Michael Rindaldi and Adan Wilder has a book focused on modulation.
The "styles" are out there, its just that some high profile modellers are published authors with A-Z guides on their choice of finishing styles.
Lovely work on the T-62
Regards

Re: Tamiya T-62
Ah, I see.
I have the Tankart 3 book by Mike Rinaldi and follow the Martin Kovak "Night Shift" channel who mentions him so I guess I'm in the Rinaldi camp for the rendering but apply modulation as well!
Thanks for the comments on the T-62, I spend a lot of time trialling and changing my mind which is one of the reasons it takes so long, I haven't really got a plan in mind so end up being directed by what looks suitable.
Added the brown oil filter and hand painted the markings, should they also receive a filter or be left as is?

Re: Tamiya T-62
NightShift has changed his approach to weathering/chipping over the past year and it's quicker but just as good as it used to be.
I watch Michael RINALDI'S live vids on YouTube and it still seems like Black Magic to me!
You have certainly got the best from both worlds with the T-62
Well done
Regards

Re: Tamiya T-62
some experimentation with a sand effect, heavier than I would really like in truth:

.....and some rust effect on the spare tracks, could be darker maybe?:

Re: Tamiya T-62
I'm glad you're back
The new paint job is quite an improvement, well done! The sand and mud on the lower hull also looks fine
Perhaps you could tone down the rust on the spare track links with a dark brown oil wash?
Philipp

Re: Tamiya T-62
That's my thought Phillipp to darken the rust.
It is actually brighter in the photo than in reality but still too light to fit in with the model.

Re: Tamiya T-62
I agree with Philipp, you could tone the spare track down with a dark brown wash then wet blend with a lighter one in patches to give it some tonal variation.
The new paint job is much nicer than the original sand scheme!

Re: Tamiya T-62
Cracking on with the tracks.
A bit of a nightmare really as I keep having to chase my tail. I keep parting them as I try to fit them, I repair and disguise that then create another break!
Tracks are done with pastels grated through a tea strainer and fixed using clear Gloss and Matt Tamiya, rust effect is with Lifecolor acrylic and bare metal is Tamiya Chrome Silver with a burnished graphite pencil over the top.

Re: Tamiya T-62
A little bit of work on the Dshk 12.7mm today.
I have some etch to put on it so the rear sight and feed tray cover are coming off. Barrel made from guitar string, gas chamber mounts from flattened wire and muzzle remade from sprue in a cordeless drill used as a lathe: Looks like I may need to tweak for straightness, realign the barrel and muzzle then shorten it a bit to look in proportion.
