Soviet Valentine with 45mm

Post by Bryan Krueger »

Hi all, this was another one I stared without finishing anything else first. This time it's a Lend Lease Valentine rearmed with a 45mm main gun. The conversion is rather simple. The new mantle parts were created in 3D CAD and printed by a friend. The main gun is a left over that didn't work for the T-35.

Base kit is Tamiya Valentine with the above mentioned parts plus applique armor plates that were added to some Lend Lease Tanks. I replaced the kit exhaust with a resin replacement but everything else is OOB.

Just a black base coat right now. Painting is going to be interesting because the wheels and tracks are glued to the hull as one piece. It wasn't my intention but the fit of the wheels was loose while assembling the link and length tracks so I just glued it all together to make handling easier.

Nice work! Gotta love all those wonderful Soviet prototypes. Gary built a Matilda with a 45mm a couple years ago.

Sorry Bryan, upon closer inspection I confused your 76mm Matilda with his Lend-Lease Matilda  :o

It seems being back to work didn't exactly improve my mental faculties

Thanks Shawn.

Here is a little update. I was able to get some time at the paint booth over the weekend. I used one of those airbrush texture stencils to created a patchy mottled effect. This was also filled in with a little freehand.

Over this I sprayed a light coat of my custom 4BO mix of Tamiya paints.

It is an interesting model. I didn't´know about this conversion. There was in the Soviet Union project to rearm captured Praga Pz.Kpfw. 38 (t) tanks by 45 mm 20K gun. I dont´t know if this conversion was really done.

The mottling really makes such a nice effect.

I'm making some progress on the Valentine too. This is one is kinda my dust off the cob webs and get familiar with weathering techniques again since it's been about 6 months since I weathered anything.

Over the base coat I airbrushed a mottled brown camo. Markings are hand painted. Next was a wash, chipping, some oil effects, and then speckling effects. Next is dust effects which I'm really looking forward too on this one.
