Time for a quick update:

The figures are far from done yet...

The snow on the lower hull is an unholy mixture of baking soda and Noch icicles paste, which is a glossy clear acrylic paste and good for all kinds of icy deposits. I'm thinking of throwing a dark wash on top to bring out the structure a bit more...

Looks good so far. I agree on the wash to bring out details. And then some white oil paints or thin acrylics to to pop the WW.

Or use thin Humbrol matt white and dab and blend the paint. I'm not sure how durable the pigments are though so proceed with caution. :D

I haven't used Humbrol paints since the turn of the millenium, how do they compare to other stuff?

All of my whitewash builds incorporate some Humbrol enamel either mapped with thin paint, airbrushed on and wiped off with thinner, or as a wash to reverse highlight on a grimy whitewash. When using Humbrol thinner it dries dead flat.
