Re: Tamiya Somua S35
Thanks!
OK, primer+paint+decals.
Model is painted with Tamiya acrylics. I first applied a black preshade in case I missed anything later. Base color is Dark Grey. I mixed in a little bit of Dark Sea Grey to apply a mottled finish. This was repeated few times getting progressively lighter with each application. The paint was very thin maybe 80% thinner using Mr Color Self Leveling Thinner.
Next I airbrushed Tamiya Clear to apply the Def Model decals. These decals snuggled down so well and almost no trace of film. There were multiple marking options in the Def kit but none matched any ref photos from the Tankograd book. I chose the 311 option for a little bit of color. I have a feeling the center of those crosses should be black. Oh well. I then airbrushed a coat of Tamiya Semi Gloss Clear to seal things up and get a consistent gloss level.
Next, I applied a couple of coats of hairspray and applied another round of mottled Dark Sea Grey mixed with a little White. I then used a small brush to chip a mottled effect. It's starting to look a bit like the ref photos. I'm sure weathering will tone down or completely conceal this effect.

Well that turned out very nice. The texture on the hull really stands out under the paint.
Nice job.

Without the tracks it looks a lot like your MaK stuff
Fully agree with Shawn, the cast texture comes out nicely. The base coat has nice variations without being overdone for effect.

Thanks!
Philipp - You're right and the Nutcracker was influenced by French tank design.
First effects with oil paints and washes. Also some detail painting.A few areas need touch up.

How did you do the mufflers/exhausts? I still struggle with realistic rust in these areas.

Re: Tamiya Somua S35
Adam - Here's the steps as I remember
Light Grey base
Dark Brown chipping with foam sponge
Filters with thinned Dark, Standard, and Yellowish Rust
Apply dry Rust Pigments, Dark and Standard pigments. Set with Fixer
Additional filters to adjust as needed.
It's a lot of back and forth.

Almost there. I thought I was done but noticed a couple of items I want to refine.
