KV-Too Much

Post by Bryan Krueger »

I saw it on the internet so it must be true.

I've wanted to build this one for a while ever since i saw the manipulated photo of the KV-2 but I couldn't figure out a way to do it without sacrificing three KV-2 kits or a bunch of resin casting. Eventually I found an ebay listing for this turret conversion that included three turned aluminum barrels. I was a little concerned by the photos but took a chance. It turned out to be a 3D printed SLA resin turret with separate mantles. Whoever reversed engineered the CAD for this did an OK job. not great and not bad, just OK. They did install the rear access hatch inside out in the one piece print.

My sample arrived with broken periscope covers and armored visors. I glued in the periscopes, and ground off the comically large handles and busted armored visors. I may just cut off the entire roof plate and replace it with the one from the Trumpeter kit.

The build lines were very prominent so I have spent a lot of time cleaning up the printed turret. It won't be perfect but I guess it doesn't need to be.

I have a PE set for this but just don't think it is worth it... but those solid screens though.

Construction is complete. I put a little too much work into something so obviously goofy. Redid all the welds, added fine rolled steel texture, added wire grab handles, but left the solid plastic intake and exhaust screens. PE just didn't seem worth it.

Fruity Pebbles under coat. I applied this in an attempt to add some variation to the finish. Most of it vanished after I finished the modulation. First image the barrels are not fixed so the top one looks a little sad.

It may be goofy, but it looks cool. I liked the pebble scheme.

Now with markings. I had a friend cut vinyl masks with a die cutter based on scaled artwork.
