Well, I reckon it's time for a new armour build.
I wanted to build something quick and easy so I could get straight into some painting and as luck would have it, I had this old thing sitting in the stash. If I remember correctly I picked it up at a Swap n Sell a few years ago and never got around to doing anything with it. Anyway, It's an oldie and for that reason, I'm not worried about any imperfections it might have or any corrections it might need. A bit like me really I should have some build pics put in here but unfortunately, I didn't take any. As an alternative, you can just imagine what it looked like as I put it together. Sorry
And now, thanks to the magic of technology, here it is, ready for painting. The eagle-eyed amongst you may have noticed the PE additions. I had these left over from a Panther build so I thought I'd take advantage of that good fortune. See, the leftovers do come in handy.
I should also mention the ATAK Zimmerit. I didn't even know I had it so it was a pleasant surprise to be able to add it on my Jagdpanther. If you have never used this stuff, I suggest you give it a go. I enjoyed it immensely.
Ok, that's the build part, hope you liked it.
Time to get back to the bench and fire up my airbrush.

Looks really nice already, but that was to be expected Did you have any fit issues with the Atak Zimmerit? I once tried to use it on a Jagdpanzer IV and the panels for the lower hull were all undersized.

Thanks Philipp. Yes, I have been slack lately and not reporting in regularly. I hope I didn't give the impression the ATAK sets have perfect fit. While some are a drop fit, others will need a bit of tweaking. For example, I found the piece for the front hull was too small by a fraction. Not much mind you, but noticeable. I simply cut it apart vertically and spread it apart, then inserted a small leftover piece to widen it. The resin is super thin and very easy to work with which makes any problems simple to fix. If you don't have any leftovers, any gaps created by altering the size can be easily filled with putty, then scored with the surrounding pattern. Give it a go, you won't regret it.

I've put the first coats on the Jagdpanther. I started with a white primer base then added some shading using Nato Black.
Over that, I applied thin coats of Ammo by Mig Dunkelgelb and a rusty brown from Lifecolour. You can probably guess where I'm going with this. I finished with a Satin coat which I'll let dry for a day before I start the weathering.
Oh, I should mention that I've done the wheels as well, they just aren't in the pics. This is where I'm at right now. I'm looking forward to the next stage. Thanks for looking.

Somehow I expected this

I can definitely use some inspiration for the damaged Zimmerit on my Tiger....some day I'll continue with it

I was wondering though, if the heat inside the fighting compartment was hot enough to burn off the paint on the roof, wouldn't the Zimmerit on the upper hull have burned off as well?

Thanks, Philipp, that's a good question You are probably right about the Zimmerit. I'm not sure if it burns or even what effect the heat would have on it. Does it become brittle and fall off? I really don't know. Instead of ripping big chunks of Zimmerit off the hull I decided to proceed in this fashion..... and a close up of the roof after some adjustments and a pic of the engine compartment. By the way, the grilles will be in place shortly. I've been experimenting with oils and texturing on the wheels. I'm particularly pleased with the burnt effect I achieved on one of the wheels. Anyway, this most likely will be lost under further weathering with dirt deposits but it was fun to do. That's where I am at the moment. I still have a lot to do yet but as a painting exercise, I think the Jagdpanther is coming along nicely.

Yep, that's about how it works. I'd say what you did is spot on

Funny enough, in 1944 the Germans became concerned Zimmerit could be a fire hazard, but in the end it probably was just an excuse to get rid of the pointless stuff.

I think the Jagdpanther is coming along nicely.
