PT-76B

Post by Olivier Carneau »

Hi all
some months ago during my modeling club sessions I started the PT-76B from Trumpeter. Here it is ready for paint.
I changed the vinyl tracks for Armo resin ones and I replaced the poor flat PE headlights protections by brass wire on one side and styrene rods on the other side. The latter is simplier in my opinion.
First pictures with the PE protections.

Excellent work! I always end up breaking styrene rod/strip when I try to bend them to a shape.

Nice start Olivier! :D The brush guards look a lot better than the photoetch.

Got to agree with the others, your scratch built brush guards are much better than the kit offering.

Thank you Adam. I don't understand why some manufacturers give flat PE parts to represent round parts. In this case the parts are hard to cast as a single part but a multiple pieces design is possible.

Olivier,
Did they give you a form or just tell you to bend them to shape? I assume as it is Trumpeter they just said bend them to shape. That is the main reason I despise most PE and especially Trumpeter. I will never forget my BM-21 (01013)where they gave me two flat pieces of PE and said I needed to make two rear bumpers that required 6 bends and they were supposed to look the same with no form to assist.

Mark
In this case a jig was provided. But it didn't help that much as when the parts were shaped they wouldn't fit in the positioning holes.

Hi all
I managed to take some "poor" pictures of the base coat for the PT.

I could try to made it even lighter as sunbleached for example or simply showing its age after long years in service of the rodina :D

Finally it does not look so light anymore. The Klir coat really made it darker than expected.
However the weathering should help give it a suitable worn-out look.
