Meng Panzer III Ausf. N...superdeformed^^
Now... that's something new here for me:
A "superdeformed"Panzer III Ausf. N by Meng.
This is... weird... I mean I am familiar with the style itself by years of watching anime but I've never built something in this style.
It is vastly simplified of course and has only three of the six roadwheels (and weiredly enough two sprockets ) but in general it is clearly recognizable as a IIIN
It was nice an simple to build... with the exception (and here it's sharing the annoying problem of many proper scaled kits ) of the turret skirts... thise where... annoying to say the least .
But given that the whole build to this point took me a whopping 30 minutes it can be dealt with .
Here's everything the box contains=>
And so I started with this cutesy absurdity =>
Mind the both reduced and enhanced running gear .
The skirts looks surprisingly well defined (of course insanely massive and out of scale - as they are supposed to be ) but I broke them into segments and gave those some bent edges, just couldn't help it . =>
OOTB =>
Modifications =>
And here they are affixed to the hull =>
Mind the massive glueing operations regarding the turret skirts (also did some hollowing out of the MG-34...ish...y... barrles) =>
So now it's going to be painted.. of course not the grey suggested by the instructions and the markings... err... they are an inverted Zitadelle marking for the 11th PD, general markings for the 9th PD and a K of "Panzergruppe Kleist" during Barbarossa...so... no .
Best regards

Re: Meng Panzer III Ausf. N...superdeformed^^
Hi Raoul
Have look at this
Pz 38t toon
It will give you an idea, but it seems along with "do whatever", most folks treat them like the real thing
Upgrade where there is something wrong/missing, decals, chipping, weathering, its just smaller and "fun"
I got a Pz III M too, which I will convert into a Stug, just for the hell of it and there isn't Stug in the range, at the moment
You might want to check Pete Toon's blog soon as he might not have survived a lung operation he was having on 241218.
he hasn't posted since, which isn't a good sign.
you've got started, so have a go and enjoy the weirdness of it all.
Regards
Steve H

Re: Meng Panzer III Ausf. N...superdeformed^^
Oh that's interesting, thanks Steve!
( though in regards to the original thread author)
There where a couple of other things (tools, Bosch lights... ) that I might have choosen to correct but it felt sufficient to me to do the skirts .
It's a lot of fun, in a way very similar to the retro GB last year .
Really good to get into building again, so thank you not only for the kit but for providing this re-entry point to me !
Best regards

What an absurd little contraption!
I'm sure there's some photoetch available somewhere
I should mention there are laser cut wooden decks available for SD ship kits

It's now yellow!
This is so insanely martial-cute !
Any suggestions where to put it markings-wise?
I think I have markings for all the PDs and PzG divisions... .
Best regards

Re: Meng Panzer III Ausf. N...superdeformed^^
And modulated too,
Well done Raoul.
I guess the decals go where they would normally, if possible?
Or perhaps cut down to size?
Looks really good, can't wait to get mine for a Stug conversion.
If you check the Meng range there are plenty, and there are egg style planes and ships too.
I guess they are a palette cleanser to help get you back on track/focused and a little harmless fun too.
Good progress too Raoul
Regards

I certainly can't see what people see in these. Not something I would build, but your doing a great job on it Raoul.

Re: Meng Panzer III Ausf. N...superdeformed^^
It's fun, no point beyond that !
So, after being away for a month, horridays and all that, I actually managed to do something!
I marked the kit for a IIIN of the Panzerabteilung 208, a formation of remarkable bad luck that, after being stationed and used in the anti guerrilla role in the OZAK (OperationsZone Adriatisches Küstenland => "Operational Zone of the Adriatic Littoral") an area south of Venetia, rougly reaching to Pola in the Southeast, was re-deployed to the eastern front (at that time "the German front" if we're honest ) and re-designated as 1/PzRg Feldherrenhalle in February 1945... great happiness! .
Of course still equipped with all the IIINs and other Beute hardware intended to fight guerrillas in the Balkans... not taking on the experienced and battle hardened elite of the Red Army in early '45...
Anyhow, I will try to be a bit more around going forward...
Best regards

I'll also have a little note for you Steve... `bout time and all that

Re: Meng Panzer III Ausf. N...superdeformed^^
Looks really good Raoul.
I now have 2 of the IIIN, I'll be trying to convert one into a Stug III shortly.
Life can be a painful distraction, hopefully not too much pain?
Catch up soon.
Regards
Steve H
