Panzer IA series 3 SCW "Breda" conversion
Hi
Can't paint figures, my eyes still don't function properly with the optivisor, stalled with the Pz II Bridger, which was really a build project to facilitate some OPR practice, so time to build something else
I have been inspired by a Spanish Civil War campaign on another forum, and this was the first build I tried on returning to the hobby back in 2011.
I build the MasterBox Breda, which was awful, I used the Eduard PE set, and the pieces promptly fell off, as I had used plastic cement but it sparked my return, which led me to MA, and you guys
Some reference photos out on the interweb, and plenty of good base kits.
There is a LeadWarrier conversion, which is £20,
LeadWarrier
but as I have the Aber PE 20mm Breda gun, why not do what they did in the field, cut the lid off the turret, weld on an extension and slap in a bigger gun!
I have 3 prospects for the donor
None of which are a "proper" series 3, but the Tristar is closest, and as the extra 2 fuel caps are just molded on, a quick job to superglue up and sand off.
For those that are not as Panzer I focused, probably just me, and the 2 guys in Frankfurt, Hi Philipp and Raoul
There are some good photos with some of the series 3 items
The bigger glacis access plate under the headlight, with a catch on the bottom, the Bosch horn, though the next photo has the longer bugle style horn of a series 2.
The filled in rear off side vision hatch, wire cutters attached to the 3 tonne jack, the extra support strip bolted on under the lower hatch on the the main body and also on the opposite side behind the aerial trough, reinforcing trips on all 4 road wheels, tail light rather than a brake light, and some other "stuff"
The Tristar also has the modifications for the armoured cowls on the rear engine air vents and on top of the engine deck
Next, take the top off the turret, might as well start there, if I can't get that done, then there will be no Breda!
More soon?

Oooooh, that brings back memories
Anyway, definitely an interesting subject, with the Spanish Civil War being fairly interesting by itself already. Too bad nobody except MB has ever released this version in plastic.

Ohhh - as Philipp mentioned - this brings back memories .
Would be cool to see one actually built !
It's a I pretending to be a II - what's not to like?
Best regards

Re: Panzer IA series 3 SCW "Breda" conversion
Morning
I hadn't realised I had launched this one!
It is a "Can I still build a Pz I without a migraine?"
It seems I can, just
Progress so far, though it has been very very slow
3 months work, and several boxes of paracetamols
Regards

Re: Panzer IA series 3 SCW "Breda" conversion
Thanks Adam
Not quite, ModelKasten tracks with 85 links a side, 3 sprue attachments on each link and a pin for each link too.
Then the fun starts with a full Aber PE pack
The tub is pretty much complete, time to strip off all the moulded on bits ready to replace them ALL with brass
Let's see how things develop.
Time to buy more paracetamol
Regards

Re: Panzer IA series 3 SCW "Breda" conversion
Hooray, someone is still building stuff
Excellent work Steve, that's already lightyears ahead of the horrible Masterbox kit from days long past. Too bad the Spanish Civil War has been forgotten by the bigger model companies...
