Re: Kurganets 25 APC

On the track tension front, it may be different because of the offset on the roadwheels from the torsion bars. One side will have a longer run from the sprocket to the 1st roadwheel, but shorter from last wheel to idler. I wouldn't be surprised if one side was a link shorter. The side boxes look ver...

Re: Kurganets 25 APC

Actually there was a "third world war" type book donkeys years ago that had hovercraft tanks. I remember the cover artwork showed something with rubber hovercraft skirts like an SRN 4/5/6, BH7, VT2 etc. I can see this with the side armour and a hovercraft skirt. But also with some sort of magnetic r...

Re: A39 Tortoise

Here's my attempt at the same thing from last year. As we're in "what if" territory, I went for a theoretical MkIICS with a 4.5" gun for bunker-busting. 32pdr would have been pretty useless against Siegfried Line fortifications. US found that the M12 in direct fire was their best weapon here. I also...

Re: Rust and Tracks

Apologies, Adam, I missed your question. As I said, I haven't got to a definitive answer on manganese track colour yet. I'm just getting back into AFV modelling after the best part of 30 years off, having only done some - OK, lots - of Warhammer for my youngest son in the meantime. My first 2 ventur...

Re: Rust and Tracks

Actually, most of us only have to look at the brake discs on our cars in the morning after a wet night to see how quickly rust can develop on some steel alloys. All steels will rust to some extent, except for truly stainless alloys - and no-one uses those for tank tracks. But it is abundantly clear ...

Re: Rust and Tracks

Apologies for re-awakening this debate, but I think it deserves it. I seem to be on a 1-person quest to reduce the amount of artistic rusting we see on armoured vehicle models. Armour plate is a debate in itself, but is related. Armour plate alloys will contain substances such as manganese and nicke...

Re: IDF M38A1 106mm RR Jeep

Re the comment about not using the Accurate Armour CJ5 parts, beware. IDF never had US military-spec M38A1s. Their Jeeps were all commercial CJ5's, and some photos show the original factory coloured paint worn through under the IDF sand. So you do need to use them. That's why AA included the CJ5 par...

Re: Dogs of War

I've just dug out the Airwaves set for the Emhar kit. It's actually not bad, but I don't know how it measures up dimensionally for the Meng or Takom kits. In theory they should of course all be the same ........ It has etched louvres, but the instructions show the louvre edges flush with the upright...
