Making Buckets

Post by Edmund Forsythe »

An eraser , a piece of rod any will do . the trick is to anneal the brass but not to completely make it soft . just right when you get a very slight color change . Then proceed to roll it to shape on the eraser . These ones I soldered since I don't think theres any glue that will stand up tot he handling and still stay together .
They say a picture is worth a thousand words , at least ten .

They look great! But I prefer Tamiya's 40 year old buckets. You know, the ones with the handle which scales out to be 2 inches in diameter. :D

Are these scratch built or from a PE fret?
How will you do the handles?

Remember, they need to scale at 2".

That's what I consider the hardest part , my fingers still hurts from holding them together and heating up the solder . Nothing on the small arms yets . You sure they did not get diverted to south west Asia ? The eraser also works to shape shovels .

They are from a PE fret , ET models . Nice touch is they come with a plastic backing on both sides . Don't have to tape them before cutting . I'm going to use some brass wire , I seem to be having too much difficulty doing that right now .

John , what do you mean scale out to two inches ? I did dig around the attic and found some of those 1970 era Tamiya buckets along with an sdkfz 7 with the motor and it still works , the rubber band tracks did not stand up to the years and they broke . Oh well for a while there I was kid again playing with the toys .

OK got the handles done .

The small bucket's handle is the one that came with the PE . It's flat and I tried to build it up with solder . Did not work so went with the brass rods .

If you run across any of these and they are being given away , don't hesitate to ask for one or more . they work great for cleaning PE .

I came across some Voyager buckets # TE 035 . I would say if you have a choice and can get the ET # J35-005 which are ones I put together go for the ET ones they are better quality and are easier to assemble .
