Simca 5 Staff Car

Post by Philipp Gross »

Hi all,

over the last two weeks I build this tiny Tamiya staff car...originally planned as a diorama acessory for the VK 4502, but I've now decided to use it as a standalone model :D

Image

The Simca 5 was a licensed French copy of the Fiat 500 "Topolino" (little mouse) and a total of 46,472 were built between 1936 and 1948. The Tamiya kit came out in 2012 and it is just what you expect....wonderful fit all around. Its only flaw is the sun roof, which is only included in its folded version. Since I wanted it closed, I made my own from masking tape and some styrene strips.

The whole body comes off for weathering. Both halves basically snap together:

Did I mention it's a tiny car?

And here's a rough idea of what I intend to do with it....figure placement not final ;)

Good start on such a tiny car Philipp. This one won't take up much display space :D

Thank you Vincent :)

Didn't get much done over the last few days, but here's a bit more weathering:

For the upcoming dust treatment I've cut small masks for the windscreen with a compass cutter. The inner end turned out a bit rough because it was too small for the cutter :?

And of course there needs to be a bit of a scenery....the empty corner will become a fountain, still missing obviously:

You may also notice I turned the Luftwaffe license plate into an Army license plate...makes a bit more sense, considering the tanker figure.

I'm not exactly fast at the moment....but here's the finished base, minus paint and water:

Nice Philipp, having the jerry can being filled at the fountain gives context to why he stopped to play with the cat! ;)

Great result so far Philipp. The veneer edging turned out fine too. :)

Thank you gentlemen :D

No progress yet this week, at the moment I could really use some extra hours per day :? But I've been looking at some modelling videos involving water, and I hope I don't make a complete mess once I start with that

I finally finished the Simca:

For the dust I first applied a thin pigment "base coat" and then added the fine sprinkles with oil paint.
